Our Shassion on #Linguistics in 2020 was concluded with a talk on the National Mothers Day (22 December 2020) by Prof. Dr. I Nengah Sudipa, M.A. Prof. Sudipa discussed about semantic molecules, Natural Semantic Metalanguage, and their application in analysing the meaning of words for MOTHER. Below is the recording of the talk. We will be back with Shassion on #Linguistics in March 2021!
I Nyoman Aryawibawa, PhD, the Vice Dean for Academic & Planning affair at the Faculty of Humanities, and our own board member of CIRHSS, was the invited guest lecture in the Microlinguistics lecture series organised by the Linguistics Postgraduate Programs at Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University. Dr. Aryawibawa talked about his experimental works that touch on the issue of language universality.
The eight iteration of Shassion on #Linguistics (08 December 2020) featured a talk on the interface of digital humanities and language documentation presented by Dr. Simon Musgrave (Monash University, Australia) in collaboration with A/Prof. Nick Thieberger (University of Melbourne, Australia). Prof. Dr. I Wayan Arka was amongst the keynote speakers in the national online meeting SEDARING NASIONAL SERI 3. The topic of this meeting is on paradigms in local language maintenance in the new normal era. Recording of the talk is available below.
Gede Primahadi Wijaya Rajeg, PhD was one of the invited speakers in the University Centre for Computer Corpus Research on Language (UCREL) Corpus Research Seminar series online at the Lancaster University, UK. The talk was a joint work with Dr. I Made Rajeg and Prof. I Wayan Arka on the interaction of voice alternation and (non-)metaphoric meaning of verbs from corpus linguistic and experimental perspectives. Related publication on this topic (Rajeg, Rajeg, & Arka 2020) (PDF) is recently published in the Proceedings of the LFG’20 Conference. Prof. Martin Hilpert (University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland) participated as the invited speaker in our Shassion on #Linguistics (24 November 2020) in conjunction with the Guest Lecture for Corpus Linguistics class in Linguistics Doctoral Program at Udayana University (convened by Gede Primahadi Wijaya Rajeg, PhD & Prof. I Wayan Arka). Prof. Hilpert talked about quantitative corpus linguistic analysis on large database of English clippings. Flyer and recording of the talk can be seen below.
Professor Anna Wierzbicka (Australian National University) was the invited speaker for the sixth series of the Shassion on #Linguistics (16 November 2020, 12:00 Central Indonesia Time, or 15:00 AEDT). Prof. Dr. Ketut Artawa, the leader of the Indonesian Language research strand of CIRHSS, was one of the keynote speakers in the online National Seminar at the University of Halu Oleo, Sulawesi. Prof. Artawa delivered a talk on Linguistic Landscape.
CIRHSS Deputy Director, Prof. Dr. I G. A. G. Sosiowati, delivered a guest lecture (in Indonesian) on a Pragmatics topic at the first Macrolinguistics Online Lecture series, jointly organised by the Linguistics Postgraduate Program of Udayana University, the Indonesian Linguistic Society (Denpasar branch), and the Asosiasi Peneliti Bahasa-bahasa Loka (APBL). Since the first Shassion on #Linguistics by Prof. I Wayan Arka, the Shassion has been running well up to the fifth series in October 2020. The sixth and seventh series will be held in November (16 November 2020 by Anna Wierzbicka [Australian National University]; 24 November 2020 by Martin Hilpert [University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland]).
